Nelson Bays
Nelson bays is renowned for the National parks and trout fishing experiences at our door step. These include:
Abel Tasman National Park:
The Abel Tasman National Park is New Zealand's smallest at 22,350ha protecting the most natural stretch of easily accessible coastline. Established in 1942 it is famous for its golden beaches, turquoise waters, native bush walks and spectacular scenery.
Regular and on-demand bus and boat services are available. The world famous coastal track opens up the park's intimate estuaries, beaches and forested headlands.
There are two walking tracks; the beautiful coastal track which takes 3-5 days to walk the entire length and the more remote inland track through the hilly centre of the park which also takes 3 -5 days.
Many visitors kayak or walk part of the way. You can mix and match your own itinerary
Kahurangi National Park:
Kahurangi National Park is the classic national park: huge, wild and rich in the plants and animals that make New Zealand unique. Its 452,890 hectares include most of the remaining natural lands in the north-western South Island. Motueka, Takaka, Karamea and Murchison are the park's gateway towns. The Flora Carpark offers access to a network of tracks ranging from short strolls to multi-day hiking trips.
The Wangapeka Track traverses Kahurangi National Park from the Waimea Basin in the east to the West Coast near Karamea. It crosses two saddles of over 1000 metres and travels through beautiful valleys of beech forests in the Wangapeka, Karamea, Taipo and Little Wanganui rivers. Reasonable fitness is required and boots are recommended.
Nelson Lakes National Park:
Nelson Lakes National Park protects 102,000 hectares of the northernmost Southern Alps. The park offers a quiet experience of tranquil beech forests, craggy mountains, clear streams, fields of tussock and lakes both big and small. A network of short walks explores the glacial features and forests.
Longer tracks climb up through beech forest to viewpoints high above Lake Rotoiti.
